Google Acquires Aardvark For $50 million
Wow, congrats. It’s interesting that the founders left Google, spent 2.5 years building something, then get acquired by their former company for $50 million. What is going wrong at Google that is costing them this kind of “innovation premium”?

David, you aren’t considering the entire picture here. It’s not an “innovation premium” when taken in the aggregate and looking across every Googler who leaves and starts a company. Feel free to go through the list of acquisitions done by Google and count the number of ex-Googlers - few. Similar to Google, I’d rather export the funding of innovation and use superior due diligence as a previous employer to purchase winners on the cheap that fit in the organization. Case in point, if Google ever buys FourSquare aka Dodgeball 2.0, it won’t be a dumb move on their part buying it twice - better timing, execution and vision on OPT (other people’s time) and OPM (other people’s money).
