Is it possible that from a small agile company that both builds and invests, a digitally native Liberty Media could emerge? That’s the bet that I think John is taking.

As a longtime admirer/student of John Malone and fanboy of John Borthwick, I feel that creating a digitally native Liberty Media is, quite possibly, the most amazing and feasible path one could see for Betaworks. The gestalt of federating Betaworks’ once loosely coupled primordial ooze of talent and market-proven ideas into a singular digital arsenal for the social/data driven web will require deft navigation and negotiation, two of John’s strongest skills. Whether this vision of #betanext has been marinating in JB’s grey cells for years is anyone’s guess (smart money says yes), but what isn’t up for debate is that he and Andy went contrarian by taking the longer view by building a sustainable crucible for forging startup DNA unlike any other accelerator or incubator in the game.
