Bernard Purdie ‘splains how he created ghostnotes and put “air in his hihat” - if only all teachers were this brilliant and effusive, today’s musicians wouldn’t suck so much.
Now, you may not know this man by name, but he’s arguably the most recorded drummer ever. His Wikipedia entry only lists the acknowledged songs he played on, but if you ask him off the record, he played the drums and solo on The Surfaris’ “Wipeout” and countless Beatles tunes (as if you ever thought Ringo was “legit”). Indeed, Bernard “Pretty” Purdie and certainly Billy Preston can lay claim to the “5th Beatle” title, but you can’t ignore Clarence Walker’s televised claim (too hilarious).
