Dwele - “Some Kinda” - Some Kinda.  Long live the D.

delimusic:

Monday: some kinda loves

Indeed, a minimal and quite bass line, inspired by A Tribe Called Quest, actually, Freddie Hubbard trumpet’s touch, those warm keyboards notes could be labelled Roy Ayers too… and yes, the voice is a legitimate heir of Detroit’s Soul music, here’s Dwele.

Following Donny Hathaway or Stevie Wonder’s path, this multi-instrumental performs trumpet, keyboards, bass and what’s important, Dwele spread and write a dust-free Soul to which he add boldness, betrayed by his hip-hop DNA.

Today’s pick, Some Kinda from a 2005 release, is about love from a brother, a loving father, Dwele lost his when he was ten, about a mother giving and raising life… eventually about music as soul’s blessing.

Enjoy

Jay Collins & The Kings County Band - “The Engine” - Rivers, Blues and Other People.  I’ve known my friend Jay for nearly 20 years, seen too many gigs to count, watched every permutation of his talent.  This album is a collision of his influences and the affirmation of a lot of things, not the least of which, is that he’s found his voice.  Homeboy spits the truth, all meat, no bread.  Tom Waits meets Grover Washington meets Freddie King meets Allman Brothers meets Eddie Harris meets Bob Dylan meets Donald Fagen.  Yeah, cop that.
